Manhattan, which has been described as the cultural, financial, media, and entertainment capital of the world, began as a trading post founded by colonists from the Dutch Republic in 1624 in Lower Manhattan; the post was named New Amsterdam in 1626. Manhattan, now one of the world’s most costly real estate markets, is historically documented to have been purchased by Dutch colonists from Native Americans in 1626 for 60 guilders, which equals roughly $1059 in current terms.

The Island and its surroundings came under English control in 1664 and was renamed New York after King Charles II of England granted the lands to his brother, the Duke of York. Manhattan became a borough during the consolidation of New York City in 1898.

Manhattan the most densely populated of the five boroughs of New York City is often referred to as “The City” by residents of other boroughs. Manhattan has almost exclusively vertical housing of rental apartments, co-ops, condos with a sprinkling of brownstones or townhouses.

Manhattan Island can be divided into four informally bounded components, all aligned with the borough’s long axis: Lower Manhattan, which houses Wall street, the World Financial Center, and two stock exchanges, the reason New York City has been called both the most economically powerful city and the leading financial center of the world. Midtown Manhattan which houses the United Nations on the East Side and the Theater District on the West, Upper Manhattan ‘which houses the Upper East Side and Museum Mile and the Upper West Side where the Museum of Natural History is located. And now, Uptown which includes East and West Harlem, Fort Washington, and Inwood. All four areas are subdivided into smaller neighborhoods with their own characteristics and flavors.

Knowing these neighborhoods can take a lifetime.

The community’s spacious one- and two-bedroom residences are arranged around attractive courtyards and green spaces. Depending on the building, features may include elevators, assigned covered parking, additional storage and convenient laundry facilities. Residents enjoy heated swimming pools, clubhouses, shuffleboard courts, outdoor gathering areas and a variety of social activities—making it easy to stay active, meet neighbors or simply relax in the sunshine.

One of Winston Park’s greatest advantages is its location. Publix, Whole Foods, restaurants, banks, medical services and everyday shopping are nearby. Downtown St. Petersburg, with its waterfront parks, museums, galleries, restaurants and lively cultural scene, is only a short drive away. Residents also enjoy convenient access to Tampa area airports and St Pete’s beautiful Gulf beaches.

Condominium living provides many people with a welcome alternative to maintaining a single-family home. The associations care for the buildings’ exteriors, common areas, landscaping and recreational facilities, although services and amenities vary by association. This allows residents more time to enjoy everything St. Petersburg has to offer.

What truly distinguishes Winston Park is its sense of community. Neighbors greet one another, friendships develop around the pool and clubhouse, and residents can be as social—or as private—as they choose.

Waterfront parks, palm-lined streets and year-round outdoor living give the city an easygoing character, while its many neighborhoods offer a wide variety of architectural styles, price points and lifestyles.

Culture is central to St. Pete’s identity. The Dalí Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Chihuly Collection, James Museum and Morean Arts Center anchor a lively arts scene that also includes galleries, murals, public art, theater, live music and frequent community festivals. The result is a city that feels creative, independent and distinctly its own.

Downtown St. Petersburg is in the midst of significant growth. Residential towers, hotels and mixed-use projects continue to reshape the skyline, while new retail, research, medical and cultural investment is bringing more residents and activity into the urban core. Beach Drive, Central Avenue, the waterfront and the Innovation District create a downtown that is increasingly walkable, polished and active throughout the day and evening.

The restaurant scene has matured along with the city. St. Pete now offers everything from casual seafood and neighborhood favorites to chef-owned restaurants, sophisticated rooftop venues, craft breweries and MICHELIN-recognized dining. Modern Italian, Pan-Asian, Latin, Southern and locally inspired menus reflect both the city’s diversity and its access to fresh Florida ingredients.

St. Petersburg, however, is much more than its downtown. The city spreads across the Pinellas peninsula through historic bungalow districts, mid-century residential communities, waterfront enclaves and broad commercial corridors. This geographic sprawl allows buyers to choose between an urban condominium lifestyle and quieter residential settings while remaining connected to the city’s cultural center. Across the bay, Tampa—one of the country’s important financial and professional-services centers—adds major employment, business and travel connections to the broader Tampa Bay lifestyle.
